The Farm Experience

Guests are welcome to walk the farm and visit the cowshed, but for safety, it's best to let Moyra know beforehand. Access needs to be arranged, and if the herd is being tested that day, the timing may need to change.

Old gumboots and sneakers are on hand if you need them, and Moyra prefers to accompany guests who aren't familiar with farm life; she'll point out anything to be aware of before you head out, from electric fences to effluent ponds and farm machinery.

If Moyra has one free, a ride out on the side-by-side (a small off-road utility vehicle) is sometimes on offer too.

Many guests also like to get closer to the Mountain itself, whether that's a scenic drive or a walk on one of the tracks nearby.

Down by the river, you might spot eels, a favourite with kids, though little ones need supervising near the water.

The river runs the length of the farm, crossed by a few bridges, so it's worth remembering to close any gates you open along the way.

Beyond the farm, New Plymouth is a popular day trip, with beaches, surf breaks, and the town itself all within easy reach.

“We loved our short stay here, Moyra was a great host, very good communication and took us out to see the cows. We stayed with our 3 kids and they loved being on a farm and even got up early to see the cows being milked. The house is stunningly restored with amazing attention to detail. gives you a great feel for what a late 19th century house in NZ would have been like but with all the modern amenities”
